Yesterday one of my friend went to newark INS to enquire about payroll extension procedure and the status of his applicaion I485. A verrrrry rude officer answered about the question on clearence from the FBI to which he said that it's been cleared from FBI. On further asking the question about whether he should leave the country on payrol or not? The officer got angry and said that he doesn't know. and further asked my friend to leave or else he will call a cop.

Is this the place to live?

It happens at

It happens at almost every INS....
They will answer to the point like robots and yes the next sentence is if u dont leave i will call a cop.....
I faced the same experience in San Jose INS center couple of times ...

it's a fact

We as Asians and in particular south Asians will be treated as second class resident of this country. GC or no GC is not going to change this sceanrio.

Be prepared to live as a segregated lot , away from the mainstream , earn your green dollars and accept whatever u get in return.

I think

There might be more to this than your friend told you about. ;)

People dont threaten to call cops unless there has been some hot verbal exchage.

No guys - may not be that bad

But more or less similar. If you remember your first stamping in US. I dont know if anyone had to go through an interview. They are rude at the consulates in India and I would guess that they will be same here too. Again, imagine the # of people they would have to serve per day. Thats pretty tough job and monotonous job. Imagine yourself in that job. Pretty boring.

If you ask same question repeatedly you can pretty well piss him/her off.

What did your friend expect him to say:

"Ya please go and give me a call if someone gives you a hard time..."

He cannot say things like that, he cannot even give his openion. He can be held responsible for his words.

My experience at INS, Boston office (JFK) was great!!, I went in there to get my EAD renewed, got out at 9AM with EAD in my wallet.

These people have procedures and will do exactly as the procedure says, personal judgement plays very little role in the system.

These kind of questions are to be answered by your lawyer, that is what they get paid for.
