There has been some discussion on limiting calls to IIOs, but.....

VSC/485

Some people here have suggested limiting calls to IIOs as they seem to record the date of call everytime you call. But consider the scenario where they have sent out an intent to deny (ITD) or RFE which gets lost in the mail without the message getting updated. These things have time limits, right? So if it doesn\'t reach you and you aren\'t aware that an RFE or ITD has been sent, it could land you in a lot of mess - similar to the guy who recently posted on www.isn.org about his I-485 getting denied. How can such a situation be avoided without calling the IIOs? I don\'t see any other solution to this problem other than periodically calling IIOs.

So what if IIO\'s record the date and time of every call you make. They would not use that information to vindictively delay your case. You can (and should) call at least once every two weeks just before important events are expected to occur, eg. Fingerprint appointment (I would have missed mine if I had not called), RFE\'s, etc.. So, let IIO\'s do whatever they have to do, and the same holds for you.

Standard disclaimers:
1. These are exclusively my opinions, not my Employer\'s.
2. Please do not flame me if you do not like what I wrote. I prefer to be ignored instead.

I don\'t think IIOs do anything but be Immigration Information Officers. They are there to provide Customer Service.
They don\'t do any processesing.

I agree with you. Yes, Definitely it\'s very helpful calling IIO to know the status. In my case, INS issued an RFE on 5th July,2000. Automatic message hasn\'t changed. How do I suppose to know? In my case it happend that attorney never received RFE until now(almost 14 days have been passed). What I supposed to do? There is no wrong in calling them when there is an issue. I called INS 4 days back and also today morning. IIO suggested that ask your lawyer to contact us. Just imagine If I wouldn\'t have called IIO in first place what would have happend? INS thinks that they issued RFE but laywer never responded and case might denied after some time. It\'s very obvious to call IIOs to know your status.

Hope this helps. Any comments welcome.
