The Name-Check Clearance Procedure

Q: Who is required to have the name-check clearance procedure?
A: Information we have received through e-mails, states that males between the ages of 16 and 45 could be checked. We have heard that some females have also been subjected to this name-check procedure. Individuals from the following countries are required to go through the name-check procedure:

Afghanistan Iraq Pakistan
Algeria Jordan Saudi Arabia
Bahrain Kuwait Somalia
Djibouti Lebanon Sudan
Egypt Libya Syria
Eritrea Malaysia Tunisia
Indonesia Morocco United Arab Emirates
Iran Oman Yemen

DOS has not released a country list or other program details. It is not clear how a country's appearance on such a list is determined, nor how such a list might apply. We do not know if such a list would refer to country of birth or country of citizenship, or both; we do not know whether the country of last residence has any bearing, or whether there are other countries on the list.
