I am outside the US for 4 months now, vacationing (very far from my COP - in Australia). asylee RTD I travel on expires by the end of august and I would like to extend my tourist visa here (valid until june 1st) up to the end of my RTD's validity.
1.Should I worry about flying back to the US close to the date of RTDs expiry?
2. I applied for a new RTD in february and should that one get to me soon, would it be ok to extend my visa in that RTD and how long could I stay here without having difficulty going back home (USA)?

i did bio 3 and medicals in nov/dec 2005 but still no news about adjustment:(
ND 2004 march

thanks everyone

1) ian, i am not sure that you can extend the visa there. they may make you come back and reapply for a visa in the us.......
2) i don't think it is a good idea to overstay the visa there, you may have difficuculty getting one again, so either way the new rtd will not help you in that respect, unless you can secure a visa on it that exceeds the validity of your current visa.
3) i think that the limit of your stay outside of the us, on an RTD, is equal to the validity of your RTD i.e 1 year, make sure you don't jeopradize your status here.

i think all of that is doable though, just make sure you are well informed before you take action. if i were you i would come back to the us, if you have the means, and get a new visa on your new rtd. that is the best thing to do because 1) you have at least entered the us one in a year, 2) you did not overstay your visa, and you can get a new one, and 3) you don't have the RTD and stamps issues.

sve najbolje......

by the way, how is australia???
where are you located there??????
me and my friend were talking about moving there.
there is a law school that i am keen on there, bond university..... one of my friends went there.

i would go back to the US to get another visa but:
two years ago it took 65 days for au embassy in dc to give me a visa
last year it took them 61
both years they kept my RTD for the entire time

this question I can answer you... No you should not worry about that. My last long vacation was for almost 3 months and I only came back because my RTD was expiring in March 16 2005. So I entered the US on march 14 without any problems. They just might ask you how long were you abroad and why did you stay so long.
