The Seattle office just responded to my inquiry and told me that I should expect a letter within 45 days instructing me to appear for an interview. They wouldn't tell me the status of my wife's case for privacy reasons.

I'm also "happy" to report that I just joind the Name Check Club :D The Seattle office told me that "the computer record does not indicate that security checks have been completed"!

What a beautiful day :D

Streamflow,

It is obvious that I don't belong to category 1, so I hope I'm in the category 2 :D

I'm going to start sending letters to senators after I do my interview. I think by then I can make the case that my application is only being held back due to the name check.

Nothing to do now except wait!

Hi

I am just trying to learn the I485 process.
You said your application for I 485 was received by USCIS on 08/05, and now it went to local office at seattle.
On USCIS site it says they are dealing with currently 05/05 cases right now, but you are saying that they will call you for interview in month or so.
So does it mean that those processing time doesn't really matter.
Secondaly you case was in Nebraska, why did they sent it to Seattle for?
As per my thought Nebraska center should have finished with name check and all that. What Seattle office will do now?
Please explain in details please
thanks

I think the purpose of the processing dates published on the USCIS website is only to control the number of people making inquiries about their cases. My I-140 was approved by NSC in two weeks at a time when the published processing dates for I-140 were 6 months back! So you draw your own conclusion.

My case was transfered to Seattle and that is all I know. I wish I knew the reason for it! I am with the same employer and filed my own Labor certificate. I'm guessing the reason is because My wife and I got married 2 months before we sent our applications. I hope they will tell me what documents to bring to the interview, and this might tell me the reason.

The security checks are not done by NSC or Seattle. They are done by the FBI and other agencies. So NSC and Seattle would be waiting for the responsible agency to report to them the results. That is when cases enter a black hole and you grow old and grey waiting for someone to tell you what is going on!

I hope this helps!

Be patient....name check can take up to 4.5 years (maybe more...)

is this your opinion or a fact? I believe ppl around here are saying 2-3 years, but now you are scaring ppl by saying 4.5 years...

1, 2, 3, 4, 10 years are all guesses. I wouldn't read too much into what people say. These numbers are nothing but guesses. I challenge anyone to show me hard facts that we should expect 4 or 5 years of wait for the name check. Yes, there is cases where people waited for this long, and yes, my case could potentially be one of those cases, but no one can say that this should be the expectation for everyone. It all depends on how you view life. If your cup of water is always half empty, then go ahead and expect to be cleared in 10 years :D

Now that you mentioned it, the interview could be scheduled just because of marriage. I have been living with my girlfriend for 5 years, but married 2 weeks before the Recieve Date. I smell the interview ...

Someone posted earlier that his/her friend's name check was pending for 4+ years, I do not remember who it was but I noticed the length of the name chek since it was, as to my knowledge, the longest one.
Mine is pending since October 2003, 2+ years.

Could we make this a sticky thread since more and more people are getting stuck in NC? I read on this forum with a impression. If you cannot have your name check cleared in several days, most likely 1. wait about 1 year for clearance 2. 1.8 or 1.9 year, 3. 2 and 10 month. Two year and 10 month is the longest I have seen on this forum. It could reach 3 year while time is moving. My NC is submitted Dec. 2004 and it seems no end in sight.

Did you guys hear about the 4 years old boy who was stopped from boarding a plane because his name matched a name on a security watch list? No comment :D

what number did you call to check the status in seattle?

I called 800 number, and knew about fp(biometrics), but not for name check. I couldn't find any number to call. TIA.

I sent an email to Seattle email address published on the USCIS web page. I sent them two emails, and they responded withing a couple of days!

Calling the 1800 number can be helpful if you are talking to a nice officer who wants to help. I called more than 5 times, and I wasn't that lucky :D
