After employer gives Termination letter to an employee working on H1b, how long can employer wait before informing USCIS (i.e. cancelling H1b visa) ?

After employer gives Termination letter to an employee working on H1b, how long can employer wait before informing USCIS (i.e. cancelling H1b visa) ?

I was told that, earlier it ws not a MUST that inform USCIS.
Now approx period is 30 days.
