Hello,
I am a GC holder. If I work in Canada for 4 months on a temp. work Permit and get the salary in Canadian $ and return back to the US after that, the fact that I got salary in Canada , would it constitute abandonment of GC status or in other words is it illegal for a US GC holder to do that.

If it’s only for 4 months you are ok. You would not have exceeded the 6 month period which requires PRs to be re-admitted. Also, returning within this period would show that your stay abroad was of a temporary nature. Remember, as a PR you have to declare taxes on worldwide income. You may not need to pay US income taxes depending on the Canadian rate (it’s usually higher), but an accountant would be your best counsel in this situation.

Bringing spouse to Canada as the wife of a temp work visa holder

Hello,
Thanks for you advice. The whole intention of going to canada for a short term work is to bring my wife to Canada on a temp. work visa.

Now assuming that she comes here to Canada for four months, I may try different options to bring her to US ( I am GC Holder). Assuming that she applies for an F1 or H1, her passport would state he has the spouse visa for a temp work visa in Canada . Would this might contradict my status as a Green Card holder.

Your status would not be affected. The main issue for you is how to bring your wife to the US ASAP. Getting an F1 would be difficult, since you are a PR. If one is married to a citizen or permanent resident, getting an F1 can be difficult (impossible?) since the consular officials will presume immigration intent. In your case, an H1 visa if possible may be the best bet providing your wife fulfills the requirements including finding an employer who will sponsor her.
