Temporary (or emergency) AP

Folks,
Did anyone try to successfully get a temporary AP from a local INS office? Is there a time frame only after which you can go get one? I know that we can get a temporary EAD after 90 days. Anyone with information, please share it. It would be very much appreciated. Thanks.
