The citizenship process taking a lifelong journey....so people may move here and there in their lifetime. So if there is a temporary move , do i have to tell USCIS about it????

I hate changing the address every time and then they freeze the process for 6 months to transfer everything....

they want us to do everything proper and in return all of us wait indefinitely.

Hi there -

My 2 cents would be that since this is a temporary move, there is no need to let them know. How do I come up with this answer? Well, if you aren't changing your address with the DMV, banks, IRS, etc. then it isn't a permanent move.

Just out of curiosity, how long do you plan on being away from your current residence?

Are you keeping your current residence, moving back into it after the temporary move? And is the move just for the purpose of studying full-time at a university? If this is the case, you probably don't have to tell them (but do additional research to confirm). In such a situation, most states don't even require you to change your driver's license; they continue to consider you a resident of the state you came from, not of the state where the university is.

Or are you giving up your current residence, moving to another place temporarily, then moving again to another place permanently? If this is the case, I'd think you definitely have to tell the USCIS.

Yes, the key is - Are you giving up your current place?
Where is your "primary" bank account, primary residence for TAX purposes etc?

Its simple - if you move your official state of residence (i.e. change your address with DMV) then you need to send an AR-11 and call the USCIS 800 number to update your case. If not, its just a temporary trip and you don't need to do anything.

I would not consider 1-2 yrs a temp move. Also N400 is hardly a lifelong process for most people, except for the few in namecheck delay , it is very fast compared to other cases.
Are you in N400 right now? Or is this for future ref?
