tax/W2/paystub info RFEs?

I have seen some RFEs on this board wherein INS asks for Tax returns/W2/paystubs. Is this common? My lawyer is about to file my I485 and he says these are not necessary. Any ideas on what basis you get such RFEs?

W2 and pay stubs to verify employent.

Generally, last 2 years tax returns are asked if the person is claiming dependents.

if ins has to respond within specified time, they just issue RFE to cover their asses

I filed for my I485 sometime in April 2001. Very recently, I asked my lawyer the same question. She said that there was no "requirement" for tax/W2/pay stubs unless the INS asks for. She has been pretty good so far with her judgment so I guess I will just have to wait & see.

Though there is always a possibility that INS send an RFE for anybody, anytime or anything.
