Tax Transcript question

I mailed the N400 on 12/12/06. I understand we require last 5 year Tax transcripts during interview. I also understand that IRS sends out only 4 year tax transcripts upon request. If I apply for them now in 2006 I may get the transcripts for 2005, 2004, 2003, and 2002. In early 2007 I can apply for 2006 transcripts. So that will make it 5 years transcripts. Is this a good idea or is it too early to worry about them at this stage? Please advise.

Yes it is too ealry depending on you DO.But you should be good next year. Most of the times they wont ask but just incase. Also if you have local IRS office in you state. You can get anyyear copies for $$$.Good Luck and join the waiting club. :D

If asked, you are genreally required to provide 3 years tax transcripts. You are right where you state that IRS sends out only 4 years tax transcripts. You have two choices:

1. File your taxes in early 2007 and apply for the transcript.

2. Go the following web site: http://www.irs.gov/faqs/faq-kw31.html

Download and fill out Form 4506 (Request for Copy of Tax Return). Since you want 2001 year's return, request that. It will cost you $39.00 and will take 2 months. So if you want to go down this route fill the form out right away.

IRS only sends transcripts for the current processing year and the past three years. I don't think you have to worry about the previous years. If need be, you have the signed 1040 that you sent to IRS, right?

Thank you all

Hi Gurus,
Thanks for all your suggestions. I just called the IRS 1-800 number. Looks like we can request 10 year transcripts over phone. Did I hear it right? Then how come on the form it provides space for only 4 years.

Tax transcripts are not REQUIRED, but are recommended backup documentation just in case the IO asks for them. Generally tax info is requested by USCIS when they are trying to validate claims for residency and/or marriage, so if you have a straight forward case (5yr, no long trips) you won't need them.

10 yrs transcripts!!! .I dont think so!.Call and check again.I think they only give last 3 or 4 yrs .Unless there is charge for rest.
