Tax transcript process for CP

Hi

Can anyone please tell me the process of getting tax transcripts.

I know one can get them from local IRS office OR by calling Irs at a 1-800 number. Which method is the best one, are there any differences between the two.

I went to my local IRS office, they just gave me the printout of tax transcripts.
In general, should I ask them to stamp anything(may be some IRS rubber stamp) on my transcripts. OR just printouts are good.

Thanks

Tax transcripts.,

The printouts are official forms. I got the same, and I got them
using the 1-800 number. I got them in 10 days of my request.

What you have is sufficient.

Thanks Raju. So, the transcripts you received did not have any "Irs stamp" on them.

Should one also similarly take all state tax transcripts?

Thanks

Tax transcripts are required only if you do not have copies of your tax returns. State returns are not required at all, only federal.

If you have copies of last 3 years federal tax returns, that is sufficient.

No, the tax transcripts do not contain any stamps, but has the
printed signature of the Field Director, Compliance Services.
But if you obtain from the local IRS office, it can possibly have
some one else's signature. That is not a big deal.

Actually these are not being called by the consulate, but some
extra proof, just like the copies of tax returns and old W-2s.

what's the 800 number

What is the 800 number to order the tax transcripts? Is there a IRS URL also to request tax transcripts?

Is there a fee to be paid to get a tax transcript? Any particular form to be filled to request a transcript, etc..

Thanks.

You don't need this at all if you carry W-2s and Tax returns, which everybody has. If you appearing for the interview before filing return for last year, carry last paycheck from each employer which will display YTD totals.

Don't bother for this.

In my interview they didn't ask for any financial documents apart from employer letter.

Thanks.
