Tax transcript: need to be certified?

i read a post from expert saying u need to carry tax transcipt for last 5 years and

they better be certified/notarized: is that true?

The tax transcripts that you can attain from IRS by filling Form 4506-T can be taken as such, as these records came directly from IRS (and are free of charge.) No certification needed.
As any point IRS will provide 4 years (current/past 3), so am not sure how you can get the year prior to that if you are looking for 5 years in total. Also, IRS may take up to 10business days to fulfill your request, so plan accordingly.

They do have a 800 number so can enquire on if/how you can get anything before this period.
