Tax returns for filling I-485!!please clarify

I have either misplaced or lost my tax return for year 1998.Though I have the W-2 form.Is it ok if I prepare this again to reflect the same info I had in my original return?. Mean time, I have requested the IRS to send me a transcript of my return.
Will tax transcripts(not the copy) be accepted as valid document for filling I-485. Helpful suggestions are welcome.
 
Walk into any IRS office & request a copyof your filing

Tell them it is for immmigation, they will give it in hand, it takes only 5 mins
