Tax Returns filing as a citizen with K3 visa wife

Wish u all a happy new year..
I am in the process of filing my 2009 tax returns. I am USA citizen, software engineer, my wife is on k3 visa right now.
What is the best option for tax filing status? When I selected married filing jointly, it is asking for wife's SSN ans she don't have one right now. And is it correct time to get SSN or need to wait upto get her GC? thanx..
 
Does she has an EAD card? If not apply for EAD and you can apply for SSN once she gets her EAD. Fill out the I-765 request for work authorization under category (a)(9), K3 non-immigrant spouse. You will need to wait until you actually receive the EAD before legally obtaining employment as well as SSN.
 
NUmber30 -thanx for reply. I am sending her 765 form today, how many days it took generally to get EAD? I Am in Atlanata, GA, thanks again..
