Tax return for RFE?

Does anyone know what are really asked in RFE for "tax return"? I mean, is a copy of my filled tax return forms enough? Or it must be something certified from IRS?

Thank you in advance.

Better from IRS especially if filed electronically. Visit IRS.gov, tehre are forms there. It is a free service.

Go to your local IRS office

You can find a location at irs.gov

There they can immediately give you transcripts of your tax returns (1 page summary of what you filed).

If the RFE mentions tax returns with all schedules, you should send all the documents that you sent to IRS for your tax returns (all forms, W2 etc. - photocopies will do)

I would suggest sending both!

Goodluck!

I dont know whats the difference

I just requested the same from IRS and got my tax returns on plain piece of paper. Just a simple printout. I can give my print outs instead of those.
Any thoughts ???

Think it depends on what u ask for. U can ask for exact copies of ur return.

Well not if you file electronically. I have done that for the past few years. Only thing which might prove as a saving grace is the cover letter from IRS.

I filed electronically this past year and when I got my RFE, I photocopied my copies of the return and sent those. I did not even think about certified copies from the IRS. Hopefully my copies are sufficient. My lawyer didn't say otherwise.

The free tax transcripts that you get from IRS are just plain system printouts of your filed returns. Doesn't the RFE typically ask for W-2's and/or 1099's too? My understanding is that USCIS wants to look at an exact copy of your tax returns with all W-2's/1099's/Schedules/etc. You could even request that from IRS, for a fee though and by filling out an application form. Hope that helps.

For a RFE about 'tax returns' alone you can submit the letter / printout you got from IRS.

You can ask your IRS local office to give the details of your tax return, they can generate the detail such as your 1099s and W2s as filed by you.

Also remember to include a good cover letter while responding to your RFE. Even though you have filed electronically you might have had a copy of your filing, if you have that, include it as a part of the RFE response.
