I am Canadian PR working in the US. I spent a time in Canada without finding a job and then I have an offer in the US.Most of the time I went to Canada. I never filed a TAX in Canada is it a problem?
I am not paying any rent in Canada. My address is a friend address there.i sent a fax to a canadian consulate to have an answer and even called the revenue service in Canada and the consulate has never replied to me and the revenue service was not able to answer to me.
Please let me know.

My second question is: When is my week end home I usually spent it in Canada;May I apply then nextyear for the citizenship as I landed as PR in july 2003?

Thanks for your help.

1. You are probably not a residence for tax purposes, but you should read the following:

"What are residential ties?
Residential ties include a home in Canada, a spouse or common-law partner, and dependants who stayed in Canada while you were living outside Canada, personal property, and social ties in Canada. Other ties that may
be relevant include, a Canadian driver's licence, Canadian bank accounts or credit cards, and provincial or territorial hospitalization insurance coverage. For details on residential ties, see Interpretation Bulletin IT-221, Determination of an Individual's Residence Status, or contact the International Tax Services Office."

2. I wouldn't worry about citizenship as you are going to have difficulty in maintaining your PR status. For citizenship you have to have 3 years residency in the 4 years prior to application, or 1095 days in Canada. spending 2 days a week in Canada over the past 2 years only gives you 208 days. To maintain your PR status you have to remain in Canada for 2 years within every 5 year period (730 days) if you are only returning to Canada for 2 days a week, at the end of 5 years you will only have 520 days, and will have lost your PR status.
