Is there a quick way to get my tax forms from the irs? I have a copy of last years tax return, and need the last 3 years worth. Do I mail these in with all the rest of the forms to Lock Box? Or do I take these to the interview with me, when we get one?
Also it asks me about other assets that I have. Can I include my 401K in this or does that not count?

I keep cpming up with more question.


Should we use both of our salairy's or just mine.

I make about $30,000 a yr, and she makes about $15,000 a yr.

There is a new memo that states that you only need last year's tax return.
I sent in the last two, just to make sure, but others sent in last year's only and were fine too.
No, you are talking about the medical. You will have to make an appointment with a civil surgeon yourself to get your medical examination done and send the medical form I-693 along with your application!
You will get an fingerprint and biometrics appointment letter from USCIS a couple of weeks after they received your application.
As for your last question I think $30000 is more than enough for the both of you, but wait for more opinions on that.

Do you need a photo copy of it, or can you use the transcript? I called the irs and they stated that it will take up to 30 days to get a photo copy.
 
Think you can use the transcript. But you will also need a document that has your unadjusted (gross) income on it, because the I-864 asks for the gross income at some point. My husband got his full tax returns from the place that did his taxes. And another one from when he filed online.

The form I-864 belongs to the I-485 package, so you have to send it along with it to the Chicago Lockbox. If you are above the minimum income requirement (which you are), you don't need to include your assets.

Can I use my w2 to show the gross income? Or will I need something else?

Also I didn't see a form that asks for your e-mail address, so how do they get it to send you responses?

You only need W-2 and 1040 for 2005. Don't bother getting anymor documents form the IRS etc. Even if you do, send in your application with the 2005 information and then send your other years later if that will make you feel better. At least you'll be 30 days ahead in the immigration queue.

As long as you make ~16K that's enough for 2 people and around ~5k per person for familes that have more than 2 persons. Normally this income has to come from the sposor. Since you make 30k and I assume you do not have more than 2 kids if any, you're fine.

To receive emails, once you get the receipt for your applicaiton, you need to goto the immigration website and register under case status/processing times.

You only get emails for major updates, and only if they feel like it, its not reliable at all, but something to look forward to and check every few days.
 
Thanks for everyone's help, I am hoping we can get everything done and mailed off by Memorial Day.
I wife likes to check everything 3 or 4 times before we do something, in this case it is a very good idea, that way hopfully everything is accepted the first time.

Yes, definitely quadruple-check your forms and documents, so they are complete and free of typos. I heard of someone who had a typo in a date and they don't let you just correct it, you would have to do it all again, including paying the fee for the form!
Also, don't forget to do the medical! You can call the service number to find out about dedicated civil surgeons in your area. They will fill out the I-693 and give it back to you in a sealed envelope. That envelope has to be sent along with the rest of your package, otherwise you will get an RFE, which can delay your case.
