tax extension for PR holders

Hi,
We arrived in the US in January 2022 as permanent residents via the DV program.

The tax deadline is April 18. Can we file for extension? Would this affect our status as legal immigrants?

Yes, you can file for extension like any other taxpayers. Note that you still need to pay your tax liability by April 18, even if you file the actual tax return later.
