It is tax season and we are doing our tax. I had no income for the past year but my husband did and we plan to file joint tax return. I was told that as a foreign student (F-1 visa holder) I can have $5,000 tax deduction. Is that true? Can I use this deduction for our joint tax return? If so, what kind of tax form should I use for the deduction? Thank you very much for your advice.
