Tasks to complete prior to applying N-400

I'm about 6 months away from my eligible application date of N-400. I just want to make sure that I don't loose time because of delays on my end. To that effect, my question is, are there any tasks that one needs to complete before applying for N-400. One thing I did was went ahead and sent an application to SSS to get a "no objection" letter (since I got my GC after I attained 26 years.) I thought it would be worthwhile to go ahead and attach it to the N-400 application rather than have them ask you for it later.

Can you think of any other similar tasks to either avoid delay or expedite processing of your application? I fall in Arlington/Merrifield, VA DO. How about getting the Name check process initiated (since I hear on this board that it is one thing that takes the bulk of time), although not sure if we can do it or USCIS would request that. Any feedback is very much appreciated. Thanks.

Documents

The selective Service was a good move, although you get the letter usually in less than a week, did you apply online? I don't think you can jump start the name check process, this is usually initiated by USCIS (part of the N-400 application process).

Did you obtain your green card through employment, relative petition or marriage?, if so get all the joint information (tenancy, mortgage, bills, birth certificate e.t.c together) Get all your tax information ready for the last five years. Just use the cross check from the N-400 Application, and you will be fine. Start assembling the documents and form like you were mailing it next week, that's a good way. Make checks payable to USCIS and not INS ;)

That's pretty much it. and then keep your fingers crossed. I waited a week before mailing mine from the date of elligibility, and the AO actually commented on that, so be careful not to become too anxious in mailing it early, this can cause major delay!.

*********Make checks payable to USCIS and not INS *******

I havenot applied as yet.....but pl. check as checks are not payable USCIS but other name such as "U.S Department of Homeland Security" and not short words so pl. check....

FOIA is for you only. Dont send it to the CIS unless your namecheck is pending for a very long time (even then they wont recognize it). FOIA is for your personal benefit only

SSS & traffic tickets

Rahul,

I am also 7 months away from filing N400 ,

1. what is the process of filing SSS.
2. traffic ticket depositions - How to get these?

thanks & have a great weekend

1. Goto SSS.gov and check if you have registered, you can call them too
2. Find out the county/township that gave you a ticket, contact the local court there and request for a deposition

What is a traffic ticket deposition?

The comments and advice on this thread are very helpful. What is a traffic ticket deposition? Thanks in advance.

Difficult

Parekh,

Tickets dispostion I believe is teh collecting of the records that you paid off all teh dues and kinda getting NOC ( no objection certificates)

Rahul( based on your knowledge) or anyone with similar expericence

I got the tickets in 1994 and 1995 and I just paid those that times , I have moved since then and do not remember where I had got those. Any other way of get these record.

Also I got my GC when I was more than 26 years old so do I still have to register for SSS.gov.
