Talked to VSC today...

Called VSC today (first time) using POJ method and talked to an officer. He was not very co-operative but learned that my name check has been pending from July 2005 :(

He also mentioned that if they don't receive FBI name check results within the couple of months, everything else gets delayed automatically at USCIS!!! ( Now we know why our brothers in this forum are screaming about constant follow-up with USCIS even after the FBI clearance! )

Finally I asked him about the missing I-485 processing times on the VSC website. He said VSC is still working on the numbers (?!!) and the website will be updated soon.

I think it is time for me to followup on the FBI name check thru all available channels. I know it is a dead end but still will try to exhaust all of the options ;-)

I talked to VSC

Rasi,
I am also travelling on same boat. Name check pending.

I also had chace to talk to VSC using POJ trick, officer was not at all good. He mentioned that I called up many times in last 45 days (indirectly he was not happy). In fact I called up 5 times. VSC can not expedite anything on FBI name check clearance, per him. He also mentioned VSC is doing web updates that is why one can not see 485 dates.

Hi Rasi,

Do you know which number did u call??
Is it 1-800-375-5283?? If yes what options did you use???
What is POJ method???

I called the national cutomer number today, but i could get only the status that is displayed on USCIS page.

Can you please answer..
Thanks in advance.

Hi rasi_s:

are dates are quite common. Everytime I call USCIS, it appears that I get a different answer. No one seems to know, as to what VSC is doing with I 485 cases which were filed in 2005. I know, some of the 2006 filed cases have migrated to NSC/TSC.

So, I guess we will have to wait and watch as to what the heck is happening here. I am think, they are just giving us all a run around.

Here is POJ Trick

rirlaborCT and StillAlive,
Here is the POJ trick:

Call the same number 1-800-375-5283. Punch in the regular options until you hear the status on your case and after that press 3 and then again press 3 or 4. That will take you to VSC.

USCIS Enquiry (POJ trick) :
*******************************
1-800-375-5283
Press 1, 2, 6, 1 for EAC #, 1 again to confirm, 3, 3 or 4

Standard message...

sree2005,
If they are saying the same thing like "VSC is updating website" to all the callers then there is something else to it! That is the standard message they have been asked to pass on! Either that or may be they are packing and getting ready to move the files around to NSC or somewhere else?!!!

What do you think?

Btw, what are you doing about your namecheck pending? Are you taking any initiatives?

How about your namecheck?

njrirlabor,
I just noticed. Out dates are indeed very close. My PD is OCT 2002. Do you know anything about your namecheck?

Rasi

No I have no idea about my name check. Probably is stuck there as well. Do you know about your name check? How do I find out?

Call VSC

Call VSC ( using POJ method ) and ask them. If you get a good officer, you can also ask about the date your security check request was initially submitted to FBI.

The office told me that mine was submitted in July 2005 but did not give me the date.

My lawyer called VSC a couple of days ago. She was told that the case MAY be transferred to NSC/TSC (it's pending since Nov-05, PD current). Also when i myself called them i was told that the web site will be updated with dates for i485 during next update. It happened to CSC before: i485 was gone and then re-appeared.

name check pending

Rasi,

YES..i tried few options in recent past 3 weeks. Not sure who can really help here. I don't know whether any one listen to/care of requests, but still trying, a little hope is driving me.

Options i tried:
1. Congress woman (she called me back and enquiry going on)
2. Senator
3. Local FBI field office (got a written letter and per it local FBI contacting FBI HQ)
4. FBI HQ (Washington, D.C.)
5. USCIS Director (Expedite Reqquest)
6. Emailed to FBI email id (did twice so far)
7. Faxed to FBI HQ
8. Faxed to USCIS VSC Director

I am waiting for responses still and atleast 30 days required to hear.

This won't help you expedite the process any further, but my experience has been that if you take an Infopass appointment to go talk to an immigration officer in your city, you can get more detailed response with regards to name check cleared or not. You may also be able to ask the Immigration Officer to help speed up things, although I doubt if they can do anything about the FBI Name check.

I was able to have the Senator's office contact the FBI directly and find out from them with regards to my name check. FBI replied to them in 1 day while they ignored my e-mail in that regard. The caseworker at the Senator's office also told me that the FBI name check results aren't transferred electronically to VSC - they are backed up on tape and sent every month. Someone at VSC has to read the tape and manually update the records. This process can take upto 2 months at times so even though your Name check has been approved, it might take 2 months for it to reflect in VSC's system.

FBI name check

I just read an article on today's Washington Post.
It's interesting story. FBI has been trying to develope 21st century file management system, but it's total failure. They just spent huge amount of money. So agents are still using 80's technology. Old system and papers.
Now I understand why it takes so long to get through security check in FBI.
