I went for special registration on Monday (Jan 27th). While waiting for the system to come back up, I had an opportunity to talk to the immigration officer one-on-one regarding the freeze.
Me: I have heard that there is a freeze on I-485 approvals?
IIO: We don't like to call it freeze. We would rather call it 'On Hold'. As of last Friday (Jan 24th) they were still on hold. It's for security reason and they are saying that it's just short term.
He did later on joked about the 'short term'. He said that's what they said it when this hold was put into place. Also I don't know whether he was just talking about NSC or all of the centers.
