I am worried that my job description falls under the technology alert list. does anyone know if I can get security clearance before I leave the U.S. for visa stamping at a consulate?

No, you cannot do that in advance. Yoy will fall under visa mantis. Typical wait is between 3-4 months. If you are from SR ocuntry it can be more than 6 months although the checks go concurrent.

If I were you I won't take the chance.
 
Hi folks,

I am a silent member of this group. This group was very helpful to me, when i was nowhere to go.

I just got H1 stamped and it took 7 weeks for Mantis/TAL clearence. My old posting goes like this :

I was on F1 and OPT (Biotech) from INDIA. I got H1 approval from a Research Non Profit Organization.

Mean while, I got my Canadian PR, landed recently in Toronto
and took an appointment for H1 B stamping.

At the interview everything went well, they took index finger prints and told me that it takes 3-4 weeks for clearence from Washington DC.

Any body experienced the same situation @ Toronto US Consulate, If so how many days they took to stamp H1?

It seems my profession is listed in TAL, TEchnology ALert list.

I have submitted all required documentation,

When I took the apointment over phone they told me that its a matter of 2-3 days for clearance after taking finger prints.
But when I went to consulate in person its 3-4 weeks for stamping.
