Taking unpaid break while on H1b

Hello all,
While working on H1b visa, is it possible to take an unpaid break/leave abroad for a few months or more due to family emergencies , for example due to parent with a terminal illness?

Shouldn't be a problem. make sure to get letter from employer that you are off on vacation so it won't create any issue while re-entering. consult lawyer for confirmation.
