Taking the Oath (passport question)

Hi, I'm due to taking the oath on the 22 of July in Atlanta. I'm very HAPPY :-)

but I have a question I need a passport right away because I'm due to travel abroad. Will I be given a paper that I can use to apply for my passport on the same day, or do i await the certificate in the mail first?

First off congratulations!

You will get your Naturalization certificate right after the oath ceremony. If you are travelling within 2 weeks after your oath ceremony, and you need a passport...you can make an appointment with a nearest passport agency. If you can wait until 3 weeks, you can apply for expedited serivce (normally takes about less than 2 weeks although they say 3 weeks).

If you apply with an expedited service with both ways express mail, you will get the passport in a 5 business days (2 days for mailing and 3 days for passport processing). Make sure you make a copy of your naturalization cerificate, before applying for a passport because you have to send in the original naturalization cerificate. Don't worry, they will mail the naturalization cerificate back with the passport.

As fitness99 said if you need to travel within 2 weeks, then make an appointment with the passport agency and you will get the passport on the same day. Good luck with the oath ceremony and completing the journey!
 
If Atlanta has a regional passport office, then go there and you will get your passport the SAME DAY for extra fee

More passport questions.

For Georgia the nearest passport agency is in New Orleans. Since I will be going to New York, is it possible to get my passport there? Can a passport be issued from another state?
