Taking a student loan from a US Bank

Hi,

My brother has been admitted to a Masters program here in the US. Since we do not have adequate funds for a bank statement, I wanted to apply for a student loan through Citibank here in the US and to use this as proof of financial preparedness when he goes to the embassy (I will cosign)

Good or bad idea? Anyone?
 
When is your brother's interview and when do you plan to take out this loan? I ask because it would look tricky seeing all this money deposited into your account unless you will deposit the loan in installments into another bank account which could work. I know people who have done this.
