Switching Employer Within 180 Rule

Hi gurus,
I have applied for I-485 got the reciept. No EAD Yet. Worried might get laid off. So Few questions:

1. Can a person work for another employer having EAD before the 180 days ?
2. If So, does that person have to get H-1 through new employer ? OR the EAD is sufficient.
3. Can my wife work on EAD once she receives it. Her 485 has been filed along with me. She is currently on H-4 ?

GC is future employment - BUT

The GC is for future employment so, in theory the GC can go forward as long as both the employee and the company intend to enter an employment relationship when the GC is approved. Of course, the layoff makes this suspect and INS may not buy it. With EAD, you can work for any employer.
