Surrender Certificate with OCI - send original or copy?

Does one have to send the original Surrender certificate or a copy of it when applying for OCI? The checklist from the SF site just says Surrender certificate (does not specify if they are talking about a copy or not). So if you send the original do you get it back? What has other applicants dispatched...especially SF folks.

Well I do hope all goes quickly for you. I still have a month before I send out my OCI packet. So let me know if you got your original surrender certificate along with the OCI cards back.

I would send in a self-attested copy of the Surrender Certificate given how much pain and money they make you undergo just to get it. A copy should work and who knows if they would return the original if you sent that in.
