Surrender certificate Law for OCI

Dear sir,

My name is vishal patel, and I got my US citizenship in 2006 by naturalization..and got my OCI card last month in may 2010...

I lost my passport due to apartment fire in rental building,and I do have fire report copy from fire marshall.

should I just attach fire report with the form? or should I apply for duplicate passport and then fill out surrender certificat form. please write me back at your earliest convience

Which passport did you lose in the fire - Indian or US?

If you already have your OCI, you don't need to do anything now. Did you get your Indian passport canceled? If so, do you have a copy of the Indian passport showing the cancellation stamp?

Duplicate Indian passport. Not going to happen since you are not an Indian citizen. You will need to go the police report route. But there is no hurry ... since you just got OCI, it is likely you do not need to deal with Indian consulates for quite a few years. Let things settle down, and you can then decide if you need the surrender certificate.
