Hi,

Can I change my surname and apply for citizenship in 1 step....I heard this can be done very easily when I take oath in front of judge...pls let me know if anybody has done this

Yes it is true. Just specify the new name you want in the appropriate section on the first page of the N-400.

The OP has to check whether his district USCIS office allows the name change. For instance, Portland office does not allow it, and Seattle office allows it only at one ceremony per year.

Does newark field office allow it...Im in the NJ area....also, if I change surname, what is the impact on OCI? Will that be an issue? Do I have to do change in india as well? Anybody had that experience please respond
