I am in process to organize supporting documents and will file AOS in a week. I need advice how the you summitted the following documents based upon your past experience. I am reluctant to send original documents unless I have to do it.

1. Do I need to include my original I-20 form or a copy of my I-20?
2. Do I need to include my original birth certificate translated by the issuing authority or a copy of my original birth certificate?

I am asking these question after reading the following information from USCIS website

How Do I Know If I Need Original Documents?

The USCIS requires documentation to prove the existence of relationships and facts in support of petitions and applications. The following will clarify when originals are required and when photocopies may be submitted.

Submission of Supporting Documents - Original vs. Photocopy - If a supporting document is prepared by the issuing authority solely for the purpose of presentation to USCIS, an applicant or petitioner must submit the original document with the application or petition. Examples of supporting documents which must be presented in the original are:

Form I-20 issued by a Designated School Official to a foreign student

Translations of documents (even when the rules allow submission of a photocopy of the document itself.)

Thanks

I would suggest sending copies and IF INS really wants it ( which I dont think they do that except at an interview ) they will send you an RFE.

However, if the originals are of no value and can be easily replaced they dend it but it is next ti impossible to get them back.

Check at www.uscis.gov about how to make your package. They say that please attach the copy even in the forms ask for it, a copy. This is to avoid in the case that your package get lost or they lost some information, then you don't miss any of your original documents. If they for certain reasons ask for the originals (which none of here has show that case so far and is very uncommon I think) then they ask you for those.
Good luck,
