Stamping in Ottawa
First of all

THANKS TO ALL THE MEMBERS IN THIS FORUM who gave me lots of info.
I am typing this in Ottawa. Mine was H1 - F1- H1.
Today I had the interview at 10 AM in US Embassy. I went there around 9:30 AM. I was asked to pay $100 and the cashier took my 156, 157 and i-797.
Within 10 minutes i was called for interview and it lasted for less than 3 minutes. First she took my finger prints and then asked for the original employer verification letter. She dint ask or check any other docs. She told they have to keep the emp verification letter, 156,157 forms. She returned my I-797.

She asked me to go pay $ 50 for visa fee and come pick up the visa afternoon at 3PM.
I was out of embassy in 20 minutes.

I had filled the 156 form online like 20 days back...looks like this helps...all that they have to do is scan the bar code and view the info. I guess they check the info well in advance and flag the application if they have any questions.

Even though the appt letter told it might take 3 days to issue visa...i saw most of the people who had interview around 10 AM ..collecting PP at 3PM..looks like most of them will get PP back the same day....unless something comes up against your SSN or name or something.
Thanks again for the forum for helping me with the info...

Let me know anybody needs any info from me

Congrats sdrblr

No three day wait, that's a very good news. I hope Toronto consulate is also following same procedure.

not sure in toronto...

check abt that..and plan ur trip accordingly. One reason why i chose ottawa was..even before jan 1st 04 in ottawa ..they used to return the PP the same day..but in toronto they used to take a day or two...i dont how different is it now..

Thanks sdrbir

We are planning to drive and I already took a week off from work considering the changed scenario.

Lets see how it goes, I have appointment on 8th and it is the first time I am trying to get passport stamped.

I will update the thread once I am done with it.

I am planning to drive to ottawa for H1-B stamping on Feb 1st week.

just wandering what answer should i give to the question:
When do you intend to Arrive in the U.S. ?

Any help is appreciable.

And is it O.K to drive to ottawa or flying is the best option?

looking forward.

Thanking in advance.

***********You can write I am already in US(Atleast this what I wrote....others might have a different answer to this question)

*********Depends on where you live. If you live with in driving distance then driving make sense.

H1B to H1B transfer revalidation in toronto

Hi,
I need your opinion for H1B revalidation in Toronto, Canada.

I am on H1B visa and already working for a new employer for 1 year based on an approved visa and pervous company's stamped visa which expired on 26 Th Dec 2003.

I am planning to get my H1B visa stamped from Toroto, Canada.
I also have a Canadian Immigration Visa stamped on my Passport and want to get Visa stamped in Toronto while I land in Canada for my Immigration. After landing in Canada I want to get by H1B visa stamped and return to USA within one week.

My question is, since I will have just enter Canada as Permanent Resident and would immediately want to get a H1B visa. Would that be a problem? Wouldnt The officer in American Embassy ask me that you just landed in Canada and you want to go back immediately? Could he reject me a H1B visa based on that?

Please let me know what you think?

Well...

I am not sure this reply will help you or not. But if I was in your situation I would have considered the following options.

1) If getting canadian residency stamped can be postponed to couple of months...then option # 1 is to send your PP to STL/ DC

2) If situation is such that you need to get your canadian PR stamped right away, then how about getting US Visa stamped first and then get your canadian PR stamped.

3) I would also consider going to Ottawa ( from my own exp and also reading lot of postings here) and getting both H1 and Canadian PR taken care of. Its very easy to get H1 stamped in Ottawa and you get the PP on the same day( even after 01/01/04...bcos i got my h1 stamped on 01/05/04). If you want you could drive from Ottawa to Toronto (approx 4.5 hrs)

Hope this helps.
