Hello Guys,
I had an appointment for H1B visa in ottawa US consulate on Aug 28th. Mine is 7th year extension stamping(since my 485 is pending i have got 3 yr extension so technically 7th,8th,9th year extension). I hold a bachelors degree from India.
Me and My friend drove to Ottawa. In the border the candian immigration officer in the booth asked, what is the purpose of this trip, whose vehicle is this? plus standard customs question and gave us a slip and asked us to park the car , go inside the building to get the passport stamped. In hardly 15 minutes got the passport stamped and left.
Since My appointment is @ 8 AM went to US Consulate on Aug 28th around 7:30 AM, waited in the line. Security guard told me that my appointment is @ 9:30 AM and asked me to come back. Then they let us in around 9:30 AM. After all the security checks went in, submitted the passport,I-797,ds-156,ds-157,1 photograph and $100 visa processing fee to the cashier. After half an hour they called me to take finger prints.
Around 11:30 AM I was called for interview. The visa officer asked
1). How long you work for this company?
2). Give me the employer letter?
3). Give me your previous I-797's?.
4). Did you do any masters in US?
4). What is the highest level of degree u have?.
OK u'r visa is issued. Pay the 50 $ fee, come back and collect the passport next day @ 3 PM. She gave me back the I-797 but kept the employer letter. Hardly 5 mins I'm done.
My friend and couple of others we met, everybody got their visa on that day. I have seen only one guy getting 221g and he is not from india.
On the way back in the border US Immigration officer in the booth asked what is u'r nationality?, what is the purpose of trip to canada?. is the visa stamping done? plus standard customs questions and collected our passport and asked us to park the car and go inside the building and wait for our name to be called.
The immigration officer called my name and asked for the 1-797 ,home address, took finger prints and gave new I-94 and hardly 15 mins we r done.
Tips :
1). Book the hotels thru priceline "name your price option'. It's way cheaper than booking thru other sites.
2). Parking in ottawa downtown is costly, especially the hotel parking cost us 15$/night. It seems there are cheaper public parking spaces but u need to do u'r research.
3). Places to visit are Parliament hill, rideau canal, art musuem etc. Do your research and plan accordingly.
4). There are lot of restaurants around consulate and in spark street mall
5). You can take a 45 min bus tour or Boat tour to see the ottawa city.
If you guys need any more info i'll be ahppy to help you out.
