We completed our CP in Montreal on Jan 18, 2002 at Montreal.
Medicals:
We completed medicals at MDS in Toronto in Jan 14, 2002 by booking the appointment 3 weeks in advance. We went to the clinic at 6:30 AM, and waited until it opened at 7:00 AM. We had the medical checkup and some immunization shots. We left the clinic at about 10:30 AM and came back to get the medical result at 4:00 PM. They told us in advance that everything was OK and told us not open the envelop.
Photos:
Take 4 photos per person for the interview. Tony\'s studio in Montreal does a good job (Can $23 per person for 4 photos). The studio is highly professional and knows what it is doing.
Hotel:
We stayed at Wyndham hotel. It was an excellent choice due to proximity to Consulate (2 blocks walk), a food court at ground floor, a IGA grocery store at ground floor etc. Cost was Can $ 139 per day + $19 parking per day + taxes.
Interview:
At 6:45 AM, we waited at the consulate. We were the first family waiting outside the building while it was snowing that morning. At 7:00 AM, more and more people started come to the consulate. At 7:30 AM, the consulate opened the door. Everyone and all the belongings were scanned for any weapon. We were given the ticket number and were asked to go to the basement and wait. At 8:00 AM, we were then asked to go the 19 floor for the interview. At 8:30 AM, we were called to provide the documents based on the ticket number. First come first serve!!!!
We provided original documents in the first round (marriage cert, police clearance, birth certs, employment letter, passports, medical results, photos and affidavit of support). The lady\'s voice was laud and extremely rude. When we were too slow in handing in the documents, she said "I have a lot of people to see and I don\'t have all day to wait for you. etc...." After collection all the documents, she asked us a few questions in the packet III forms that we submitted. She made us quiet nervous.
After the first round, about 45 minutes later, we were called for an interview. Another lady officer interviewed us and she was completely different from the first lady. She was very cheerful and patient. She asked us a few questions about the company and the job, and when I came to Canada, and US. After that we were asked to pay the visa issuance fee of $65 per person.
Approx. 30 min later, we were called and provided our paperwork for getting I-551 stamped in our passports at the POE. After getting the documents, we found that they made the mistake in my daughter\'s document. Instead of having I and my wife\'s names as my daughter\'s parents, they put my in-law\'s names as my daughter\'s parents. They finally made changes to the document. Everything was done at 11:00 AM.
Right after leaving the consulate, we immediately drove to Port Champlain. It was about one hour drive from Montreal. The immigration officer spent about 30 mins reviewing the paperwork, finger printing and then stamped our passport for three of us. No questions at all. He did inform us that we should expect to receive the green cards within 6 months.
We were so glad that our ordeal from labor cirtification to the CP finally over (approx 2.5 years). Now we just have to wait for the plastic green card.
Good luck to everyone.
