hello everyone,

I came back from USA on September 1st and my interview was on November 27th. case # 2007AF8***

At the embassy I was called at 1st window and submitted all the documents listed and job offer letter from US Marine Corp.

Then I paid 755 $ and waited 40 minutes and called me for interview but finger print machine was not working so I was told to come next day.

Next day I went there and there was different officer and he asked me about my education and what did I do after my education.

I am very thankful that this is approved because I was afraid about my overstay (16 months) after expired OPT. He asked me what status I was in when working there at university as dishwasher, I told him I was on OPT.

Then he asked me about what am I going to do in USA. I told him I want to become machinist or aircraft mechanic in USMC. He said good for you and they can use you.

He did not ask me about my I-134. my friend wrote his income of 15000 $

After that he told me sign the application and he signed on top. Then finally he took my finger print and asked me to come back after 2 days to pick up passport and all the documents.

Thank you and good luck to everyone.

Hey USM,
Congratulations on your successful interview, but I have a few questions:
i) What is OPT
ii) When & how did join the US Marine Corp
iii) What documents did you submit at the embassy

Many thanks and all the best.

hello ubus,

I was in USA since January 2000 and came back to tanzania in september 1st 2006.

OPT is optional practical training that is given for 1 year after graduation. according to immigration rules we can only work in the field of study but I worked in catering while I had B.Sc Mechanical Engineering.

at interview i gave them following:

1st notification letter
education transcripts, BS.C to high school
criminal record check from Tanzanian police and FBI
I-134 from my friend
US Marine recruiter letter. I went to see the recruiter before coming to tanzania.
2 passport photos (2" X 2")
Birth certificate
passport

good luck

hello everyone,

I went to US Marine recruiter and showed him my 1st notification letter and told him that this is I 551 application and I need your reference letter stating that I am able to join US Marines.

then he asked me basic questions and had to fill out small form that ask many small questions concerning my health.

the letter is more like reference because my job is still not decided until all the tests are complete at recruiting station and boot camp (3 months basic training for US Marine).

If you are out of USA then you can also call embassy and ask to speak to Military attache about joining US Armed forces. joining US Armed forces is not requirement to this visa because this is personal decision.

thank you.

USM,
Quite an interesting experience! Are you saying that an intention to join the US Marines Corp will indeed make it easier for persons who have overstayed their visas and have won the DV lottery.

hello everyone,

at the interview the officer did not review this letter from recruiter until i told my plan to join US Marines.

I have been trying to join marines for long time and turned down because no green card and this time luckily I won the diversity visa.

I guess it depends on the decision of the officer. in application packet it also asks for deportation papers from USA so even people who were deported from USA have chance to come back in USA.

I feel like I have been given an amnesty.

thank you.
