Successful CP in Paris
(met wife and got married after NL – No Affidavit of support needed)
Hello All,
We succeeded our interview last week and got already our passports by mail.
I will not go back on details as Catseyes and others did already an outstanding work on that.
We did CP in Paris. The US Embassy staff is very friendly and efficient.
I just would like to point out two things :
Wedding
- I got my notification letter in May, met my future wife in June and did marry her in November (and early January at Church). Nevertheless, we had no trouble at all during the interview, and we were not asked to show pictures, letters or anything about our relationship.
Affidavit of Support
- I just had few thousand dollars on my account, way bellow what I’ve read on the poverty guideline. But, because of my 5 year degree in IT, we didn’t need an Affidavit of Support or anything else.
The goal of this post is to show that, even if you have to be cautious and ready (save money, build your case [we had tons of pictures of us in vacations and during the weddings, etc…]) you can make it pretty easily, even if you are in a theoretical « red zone ».
I was so stressed about our wedding and the Affidavit of support issues, but in fact, those were no problem at all.
I know it’s specific to our case (French guy (5 year degree, worked in the States), married to a Polish woman (living already for several years in France)) but I wanted to give hope to people doubting about their money founds or the wedding they scare to do. Of course, I’ve heard a lot of stories of people failing the interview because of a late wedding or something else, but here’s one with a happy end. There were theoretically red flags everywhere, but finally, it’s been green all along!
Good luck to all of you and thanks to all the active members of this forum. You’ve all been very helpful.
