Thanks to all who helped me prepare for my interview. I am glad to say that our visas were issued. The interview process was pretty much as explained in this forum and i must emphatically say that this is one of the best forums to obtain information related to DV.
A friend of mine has managed to find a job in Fremont, California and need some clarifications. He was also a DV winner. Appreciate your help.
a) The salary offered is around 80k with medical insurance upto 75%, two weeks of vacation and 2 days of sick leave. Initially he plans to work there and his spouse and children will join him in 9 months. Can he survive with this income? Can someone give a breakdown of cost of living such as utilities, rent etc.
b) What should be the income if he needs to support his family later?
c) What is the tax payable on this income?
d) The 2 days of paid sick leave looks quite strange. Is this the norm across companies in the bay area?
e) I hear most of the companies in the Bay area cover medical insurance upto 100%. Is this true?
f) How strong are the labor laws in the bay area? Have companies been found flouting the law?
g) Lastly, can someone guide me to any website which provides any useful information of life in Fremont?
