My parents are attending their immigrant visa interview at chennai in the second week of July. They are being sponsored in the family category by my sister who is a US citizen. They have been instructed to submit all the ORIGINALS of the documents. My question is will they return the originals after evaluation ? Or can we submit notorized copies of the originals. The reason is the date of birth certificates of our parents and my sister can’t be obtained again due to some error in the govt office. So we can’t part with the original we have. Appreciate your response if anybody has any knowledge in this regard

I think you should bring ALL the originals and COPIES of ALL the originals with you at the interview.
I really don't think that they are going to take the originals, but be sure to bring ORIGINALS and COPIES !!

Usually notorized copies are acceptable. However, knowing the history of these people, take notorized copies as well as originals. Hand them the copies and ask them to verify it against the notorized. They should UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should ask to keep the originals. They are supposed to return it (or promise to mail it back).
