I am on a J-2 visa and tried to enroll at a college in St Louis, but was told that they can not take students that are on visas. They are applying for SEVP and when this is approved will be able to issue form I-20 for M-1 visa application.
As far as I understand as a J-2 visa holder I can study without changing my visa Status. This means I dont need form I-20 or sponsorship since I already hold the visa. Furthermore, I have my EAD already!
Is this true that not all colleges can admit J-2 visa holders? Or are they confused here?
What makes a particular college eligible to admit students on J-2 visas?
