Study abroad after GC

Hi,

The situation is as follows:

A child got his Green Card as a dependent. If he wishes to
continue his education in his home country, for say
2 to 4 years, is he at risk of loosing his green card?

The parent continues to live and maintain residence in US.

Is the law same for an adult and a child with regard to
abandonment? or, are there any special provisions?

You can apply for a reentry permit for him. Two of these should see the child through his/her education.
