We received our greencards in July, 2006. I am planning to send my two sons to India for their studies. Their ages are 7 (1st grade) and 11 (5th grade). I will be applying for re-entry permit for both of them before they leave U.S.. I planned to bring them to U.S. once a year during their summer holidays.

If I keep doing that I doubt it would effect their greencard status. So please advice on what the best options are so that it will not effect their green card staus.

Also we planned to apply for the citizenship later on.

Thank You.

They can get away for 2 or 3 years. The burden is always on you to prove that they haven't abandoned the PR status. Reentry permit will allow them to be outside US for 2 yrs. After that, USCIS can deny to issue another reentry permit. They will face tough scrutiny at the POE after the 2 yrs period if they keep staying away for long durations.
