studies after green card...

I want to go into studies after getting my green card. The AC-21 rule talks about change of employers but can a person leave company after getting green card and pursue studies? If so then how long he has to wait after getting green card? Also does assistantship qualifies as employment?

You are free to choose what you want to do!

Greencard allows you to do what legally permitted to live your life!
Obviously, studies is also a profession in my mind, so why do you see a problem there!
In fact, you are providing job opportunity to some one which is great!

Good luck in your studies!

if employer reports to INS

Thanks for the encouraging post, I was thinking in lines like what happens if employer reports to INS that the this person is no longer employed after getting permanent residency?

Intent

I agree that your intent has to be to stay with the company at the time of the GC. That would also mean that you cannot apply for admissions to universities here BEFORE you get GC ? The application process has to start after the GC.

I have a similar issue and am wondering if you know any cases where the individual left his/her company for studies after GC ?

if applied for admission before gc

You are right, if you get admission before gc that clearly indicates that you had an intent of dumping your employer for higher studies. What if you can persuade your employer to let you go on study leave, I mean without pay? What are implications of this with INS? This could be a sponsorship case but without stipend. There must be a way out, especially if employer is willing..
