Stuck due to security check!

I heard about a physician friend who went to visit India and was held for almost 2 MONTHS for security check by American Embassy (parhaps security check has become mandatory after an Indian born physician was found involved in London bombings). He is in a j1-waiver job. His lawyer has to work hard to get him back, and he was able to come back recently only. Has anyone else had similar experience? I was planning to go to India for a visit, but this has scared me.

Make sure you have your congressmans cellphone# before you leave.

I have heard of people who had that happening. It can be a real problem if your employer lets you go after a while citing the 'unable to perform your duties under this contract for more than 30 days' clause.
