Dear Experts,

I need to decide how I could take a job outside U.S. while maintain eligiblity for U.S. citizenship. Your advice will be highly appreciated.

My situation:

I have met the 30 months requirements of physical residence in the U.S. and would like to spend the next a few years outside U.S. for a new job. I am 2 years away from applying for citizenship.

My questions:

1: I heard a couple of people telling me that INS require that GC holders to stay at least 6 months per year in U.S. in order to maintain GC status and eligibility for citizenship. But I could not find such evidence on the INS website. Is such a claim true?

2. After I submit N-400 in 2 years, do I have to stay in the U.S. while my citizenship apps is pending? what are the residence requirements while I am waiting my apps to be approved?

3. If I come back to the U.S. for every 6 months during the next 2 years, is it advisable to get a re-entry permit? Will such strategy raise flags in the citizenship apps or when I reenter U.S.?

4. Is working for a U.S. firm outside U.S. preferrable but not necessary?

Thanks so much in advance!
