Hello all
An RFE was generated on my 485 appl last week and one of the things it asked for was rather strange...

- Establish that you are not likely to become a public charge

The other things asked were standard (passport xrox, W-2, IT return, pay stubs and letter from employer...)

My question to the forum is (especially to the people who got an RFE) is : Is it normal to get this type of strange (public charge thing) query?

Any feedback/comments shall be greatly appreciated.

thanx

Yeah ,l've seen such RFE in the past. You just gotta establish that you've a job with decent salary by furnishing employment letter and paystubs. In the emplyment letter, also mention that you would continue to be with this job. but of course, you can switch once you get your greencard.

In the employment letter ask the company to mention that your employment is not based on any particular conditions and they will continue to offer you employment after your green card also.

That is difficult for companies to state. So just try and word it as such that it looks like your job is stable and you are not going to lose it once you get your green card.

You may have to submit your bank statement also, ask your lawyer. I submitted mine when I applied for I-485

Thank you guys for your comments...
Looks like this is normal INS language according to my co.'s Immigration dept.

Still keeping my fingers crossed...

You are right

I think INS is supposed to figure out that you are not likely to become a public charge based on all the evidence that you give them. After all, that is the standard of granting you the GC.
