Strange RFE -- Need help/advice urgently!!!!

My I-485 RD is Apr 29, 2002 and Notice date is May 10 2002.

I just received a RFE on my I-485.

Apart from the typical employment letter, they have also raised a question about my mother's name(s).

My mother has two alternate names (one pre-marriage, ane a new first name after marriage) - while my marriage certificate has one of her names, my passport bears her other name. Currently, we DO NOT have any legal documents to show that she has two names as my parents had not formally documented her name after marriage.

How do we provide evidence of my mother's names? Will affidavits issued by some elders be ok? How should I approach this issue?

Any suggestions/ advice would be greatly appreciated!!

I got an RFE for both of my kids, their Birth certificates had my
wife's nick-name and not her official name (as per her passport
and their passports). So our lawyer advised to get 4 affidavits
one from me, one from my wife, and two from her relatives back
in India to document that my wife who went by official name XYZ was also known by the nick-name ABC. Well they received the
response to the RFE on August 7 2003 and since then this has become a cold case.

I think getting a affidevit from court in India that your mother has a legal name and an alias should be good enough.
