Strange reply when I tried to make an inquiry......

Yesterday I called up at 1800... to try and intiate an inquiry regarding my I-485 as the PD has been current for more than 4 months now. Day before yesterday I had my Change of Address done. The customer rep told me that I had to wait for a month to receive the COA confirmation before I can make an inquiry wrt my pending status!!! How the heck are the 2 related??? I asked the same from customer rep (not the same phrase ofcourse) - I was told the reason being that they would automatically sent me a status update along with COA confirmation..so I cannot make a status inquiry.

Does this make any sense - What the customer rep told me - does it actually happens???

I am confused!!

My friend .. The "enquiry" is not something where the officer will pull out your file and start working on it because you intitiated an enquiry .. makes sense ?

No one has access to the sequence of the casses que. They will send you a pre-designed letter with some articulated words after which it will be speachless. No point.

There are a few cases where inquiry was initiated .. letter recieved that the case is pending investigation/pending service etc call after 60 days. And within 25 days people got approvals.

inquiry and file re-view are 2 different issues.

he's bullshitting. I did a change of address recently and got a letter that just said address changed. no other status. My 485 has been pending for a long time and PD is current. stuck in name check.

What's the most efficient/reliable way to do a status check on whether the case has been stuck in name check or not? Is there way to get the result of this name check-related inquiry within a week rather than to wait for a month?

Thanks

most of the 1800 folks...know squat...infact they no less than what you might have read and forgotten about immigration.
they are like parrots...read the same shit that you can see on your cases...
you have to ask to speak with an immi officer...even then if you are lucky, you might get a good person who might be helpful in giving info to you...or else most of these folks...just give some bull crap reasons...and tell you to wait...
that is all they do.
i stopped calling 1800 numbers these days...you might as well do something important in the time you wait...

i tried to get the info if my name check is done or not...i was told that they cannot share that info...if and when its complete they will adjudicate my case...i am waiting for my processing dates to become current before i call them again...
what is so stupid is they cannot even tell the petitionor that the name check is done or not...no one is asking for details just a simple yes or no...
highly arbitrary...

Suppose they give you that info. For example he tell you that your namecheck is done .... you will not wait to beat the crap out of USCIS to adjudicate your case.

They just save their royal asses ....

I agree. It is pretty arbitrary. My priority date has been current for over two months now but the stupid I-485 approval hasn't arrived till date! VSC appears to be very slow.

You are right akayal. VSC is so slow. I haven't seen an approval after June 20.

Its not about being slow .... and yes we have not seen many approvals lately. However my Ex-Lawyer's assistant .. who is my frind now, told me he recieve tons of old cases approvals during past weeks. His own GC is pending..... hehehe

He told me that its not simple that if the PD is current USCIS will adjudicate the case. You must have noticed that sometimes cases are approved even before the PD became current.

Just like god, uscis works in mysterious ways .. ;)

Cheekoo, I agree USCIS is like the mysterious GOD:-). The only thing is that I am wasting a lot of time worrying about my I-485.

By the way, did you get your GC in hand? Thanks a lot for your postings and for helping us keep our spirits high.

Not yet .... However got our passports stamped .... wanted to belive that we actually are approved. Now Biometrics is due tomorrow .. and then cards.

Keeping in mind the history of tolerance amongst the people from our part of the world (Asia) I think USA is making sure that they test our patience before we become permanent residents. ;)

Any Approvals of cases who received letter for enquiry from USCIS after PD is current

Hi,

My PD became current in march and lawyer placed an inquiry in April and we recieved a standard letter on May 26th saying "case needs some background check and it may take 6 months..etc" I am wondering if anything got approvals within the 6 months timeframe given by USCIS. Is there anything we can do to speed up the process or just wait for the 6 months duration and see what USCIS will come up with.

-Thanks

At least USCIS will sit peacefully for six month!!!

Man, you guys are impatient. Imagine your name check is stuck for two or three years, or even longer. A lot of folks are just like that...

Well, wish you all a faster ride
