Still no biometrics letter.. What can I do?

I filed my application (concurrent I-130 / I-485) on jan 9,2014. Received receipt noticed, checks cashed, etc. But I still have not received a appointment letter to do fingerprinting.. It's been over 30 days, so I called uscis n they opened a case on the 10th of feb and said that in 15 days we will get a response.. I saw a case on another forum that has even dragged out beyond this 15 day period into another 30 day wait.. I really don't want that to happen to us. My husband (USC) still hasn't gotten job offers for when we graduate school in May (we're in the same field) whereas I have several offers waiting on me.. So I need to be able to work especially since my husband is still job hunting and our college loans are about to be due in a few months..

Is there anything that we can do? Could I do the fingerprinting without the appointment? Can I apply for OPT even though I filed for an adjustment of status? Is there anyone I can call to speed things along or get answers?

I'm trying to be patient, but at the same time I don't want my case to be held up unnecessarily when there is something else I could've done. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

I'm in Norfolk, VA, by the way and I'm a F-1 student married to a US citizen. Application was transferred to National Benefits Center, per the receipt notice.

Make an Infopass appointment to inquire about it (bring your receipt notice). Ask if they have sent the biometrics notice, and if not, ask them to initiate the creation of it.
