Still have not received welcome notice/GC- starting to get nervous

Hi all,

It has been over 4 weeks, since I entered the US after the successful GC interview in my home country. I have not received the physical GC or welcome letter yet. From what I read in the forum, you usually get the welcome letter after about 2-3 weeks (which has the case# on it so you can track your case online).

Did anybody have a similar experience? What should I do, if I still don't even get a welcome notice in another month or two?

Also, does anybody know how the process works? I entered through Chicago O'Hare. Do they send the final paperwork to the closest service center, or do they send the final paperwork to the closest USCIS field office, or do they process the final paperwork and print the GC right there at the airport? I am curious as to how the process works.

Thanks all!

Congrats on getting the plastic! How long did it take from when you applied for the AMEX transfer until it was approved?

The phone call took 20 minutes and all was done. What they do first is to opened a new account, after that they connect you to a "Global Card Transfer specialist". That person has access to the foreign account and can see if you always paid on time etc pp.

The cards arrived Monday at our friends home :)

Thanks for the quick reply! Fastest response ever :)

One more question...do they transfer the balance of your oversees account to the new one, or do you start with a fresh card?

There is no balance on Amex charge cards.

I have a similar charge card (no owing balance credit card), Diners club, I was wondering if they might have something similar? I know they have are originally a US based credit card company. I have held the card for ten years and have always operated it well. It would be great if they did. I also hold an MBNA credit card, MBNA is a subsidiary of bank of America, I am wondering again if I apply for a card with them in the US they may have access to my account activities here in Ireland? It’s taken me years to build up my credit here, the thoughts of having to do it all over again are a real pain. But If I have to do it then I will its just one of those things.
Did you just call up amex to ask them about the global transfer?

alemitmee, they offered it on their website Amex Global Card Transfer

Maybe Diners offer something similar, dont know, would give them a call.

However, its a nice program and very useful for building a credit histroy and you have not to deal with a crappy secured card.

I have emailed both Diners and MBNA in the US to see. I know that I have dealt with diners in the US in the past and they have definitely been able to see my account details, I am not so sure about MBNA, but even one credit card would do the job! Diners are also MasterCard partners so it would be a relatively useful credit card over there. I could put all my spending through it and build a credit score way quicker. Lets hope they have something similar. Other wise it will be secured cards all the way ……. :-(
